My name is Manuel Grau, and I was born in Barcelona, Spain. One day as I was in a bookstore, I ran into a book that changed my life. It was “Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life”, by Jon Kabat-Zinn. That was the key that opened me the door into meditation and mindfulness. That was the key that changed my life.
Shortly after, I did the 8 week MBSR (Mindfulness-based stress reduction) Course at The Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice at the University of Bangor in Wales with Vanessa Hope as my teacher and facilitator. Since then I have completed my training at The Center for Mindfulness with Jon Kabat-Zinn, Saki Santoreli, Florence Meleo-Meyers, Bob Stahl and Carolyn West . I started applying Mindfulness techniques with my patients in my Dermatology and Psychodermatology Clinic in Valencia, Spain.
I have done silent retreats with teachers such as Catherine McGee, Sharda Rogell, Arinna Weissman, Pascal Auclair and Winnie Nazarko.
As a member of the gay community, I started exploring gay spirituality, attending the meetings of groups like Gay Spirit Visions, or Gay Love Spirit, and reading numerous books by gay writers such as Mark Thompson, Toby Johnson, Gavin Harrison, Andrew Harvey, Andrew Ramer or James Broughton.
